My Muskoka
Rated #1 in the world by National Geographic
National Geographic chose Muskoka #1 in the World on their list of Best Summer Trips, beating out Patagonia, Argentina and the Azores. Recently, National Geographic also chose Muskoka as one of
“100 Places that can change your child’s life”. Why is Muskoka being recognized worldwide as an iconic destination? As National Geographic Traveler editor-in-chief Keith Bellows said to the Toronto Star, Muskoka won the top spot because the region is true to itself.
“It’s really got this sort of special depth — this resonance — that is immutable,” said Bellows. “We look for something that just feels like it’s been there for a long time and stays true to what is.”
What puts Muskoka in the international spotlight and right at the heart of so many family histories?
This 6,500 square kilometres natural playground is home to historic towns and villages, waterfalls and lakes, all set between the vast unspoiled wilderness of Algonquin Park and the 30,000 Islands of Georgian Bay. Just 2 hours from 6 million people in the Greater Toronto Area, Muskoka is a quiet getaway where you can sit by the dock, swim, star gaze, snowshoe or ski, golf a championship course,
hike a trail, shop for unique gifts, dine at fabulous restaurants or just relax and let the city leave
your soul. There’s no place like it in all the world. And you can make it yours.
